I don't understand it but I have found that people who go through tough times are the most beautiful people I know. They have chosen to become better, not bitter.

For me, it helps to remember this verse when tough times come. "And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them." Romans 8:28 NLT

When we remember that God causes everything, good or bad, to work together for our good we can know that something beautiful will grow from all that we go through. That something will be you!

Mental Attitude

I met a woman over the weekend who was going through cancer treatments. This gal had a great sense of humor. Were her external conditions bad? Yes, they were, but her happiness was governed by her positive mental attitude.

Today's Bible verse says, In the world, you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. John 16:33

Why should we be of good cheer when we have problems? I believe it helps us to go through things better. We all have external conditions we would rather not have. But our happiness doesn't have to depend on external conditions. Our happiness is governed by our mental attitude.

Yesterday I went to the funeral of a friend. Doug was known for his kindness and his smile. What a wonderful way to remember a person. Interesting enough is that when Doug passed on he had a smile on his face. What a way to go!

I found this Bible verse that's actually talking about living, but I believe it speaks to dying as well. "You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands." Isaiah 55:12

No matter if we are living or dying how wonderful to go out in joy and peace. Let's be kind and smile for we are here in this world for just a little while.

Be Kind

I had a wonderful friend, Ann, who found out she had terminal cancer. Ann asked me to go out to eat with her family before she started any treatments.

When I arrived at the restaurant I saw Ann standing in the door. She was dressed to the hilt and looked amazing as she always did. We walked into the restaurant and I noticed people were looking at Ann. These people had no idea why we were there and of course looking at Ann they didn't know she would be gone in 6 months.

We do not know what other people are going through. They may look like a million bucks on the outside. But we have no idea what is going on inside.

We all should be kind and compassionate. For everyone is fighting a battle that we know nothing about.

Celebrate Every Step

Every one of us has started something new in our lives. We know that doubt, fear, and worry will only slow us down. When we know the Lord is with us we can be strong and courageous. I hope Eli will be strong and courageous and he'll celebrate every step of the way.

A Meaningful Life

I've known many people who have lived a long life. Sorry to say I've said of some, "They lived a dying life their whole life." By saying this I meant they never really enjoyed their life. They lived in some kind of drama most of the time. How sad!

However, I've known others who lived a short and meaningful life. They had issues in life just like everyone does, but they didn't live in negative drama. They enjoyed their life and made a difference. I'm sure you can think of people in both categories.

Our Bible verse is one of my favorites. "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly." John 10:10

I'm sure you, like me, want to live the abundant life that Jesus died to give us. We don't want to merely have a long life, but we want our life to be meaningful and make a difference.

I had a phone call this morning from a dear friend. For the last year, I knew her husband, Doug, was battling cancer. Doug's on IM and I sent him little messages daily in hopes they would make him smile. I learned today that Doug has passed on.

We sure don't know what tomorrow will bring or even if we'll be here tomorrow. So let's make today count.

Just Keep Moving

Yesterday we drove home from Ohio. When we started out it was in the 50's and sunny. As we drove towards Michigan the weather began to change.

At one point the wind began to really blow. Our car was being pushed around on the road. We looked towards the sky thinking we might be running into a tornado. It was pitch black! But we kept moving. Then the rain began to pour. We kept moving. I could see the temperature was falling fast. Next, it began to sleet, hail, and even some spitting snow. We kept moving. Finally, we arrived home. The roads were wet, but the temperature started to climb back up and the rain stopped.

How much of our life is like this? There are sunny days that can quickly turn to rain, hail, sleet, and snow. The winds can blow so hard we think we might be in a tornado.

What should we do? Just keep moving forward and the weather will change.

Don't you love the memories that make you smile every time you think of them?

When our children were young we had big family picnics. I carried around a video camera and videotaped the fun. We recently had these old videos made into DVDs. It's been fun to watch these and laugh at these timeless treasures.

Several people on these DVDs are gone now, but we have their memory as timeless treasures of our hearts. Other's are still alive and well. We can smile when we think back and remember them and the memories we made.

Unexpected Blessings

Years ago we were going through a difficult time. Our bills were getting paid, but we didn't have money for non-essential things like long distance phone calls. An emergency came up and I needed to make several calls.

A friend stopped over not knowing I needed to make these long distance phone calls. Out of the blue, she offered me a phone card that had been given to her. This was an unexpected blessing!

Our Bible verse says. "And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:19 NIV

I have learned that God will meet all of our needs. If you are going through difficult times, keep trusting God. He knows how to bless you in unexpected ways even with a phone card from a friend.

Adopt The Right Attitude

I have a friend, Michelle, who is training two people to do a job. Now, this can be a stressful situation for all concerned. It's stressful for people trying to learn something new. But it's also stressful for the person answering questions over and over too.

Michelle thought back to when she was being trained. The person training made the process more stressful by her negative attitude. It was hard to learn and remember when she was under this negative stress. So now Michelle is being positive with her training. She's keeping a positive attitude as she trains these new employees. Yes, there is still stress learning something new and training, but it's positive.

I personally do not think we meet people by accident. They are meant to be cross our path for some reason.

Years ago I met a woman in a truck stop restroom. We started a conversation and she shared with me details about the death of her son. What was interesting is that she said she never felt comfortable sharing these details with anyone else. When we parted she hugged me and said she knew God had meant for our paths to cross.

I truly believe that the Lord did lead me into this restroom on that day to be a piece of the puzzle in this woman's life. She was a piece of the puzzle in my life too. I learned to trust the Lord more knowing He would direct my path.

Small Acts Of Kindness

I wonder sometimes if we think we need to do something big in order for our kindness to do any good. I don't believe that's true. A simple smile, a thinking of you text or card, a phone call, these and others are small things, but they show we care.

When we compliment a person we have no idea what that small act of kindness may do. Personally, I'll never forget a one-line compliment someone gave to me that actually changed my whole way of thinking.

Breaking News!

Wow, do I have your attention? Are you feeling anxious to hear what I'm going to say?

This is our news today on TV. No matter what it's "Breaking News!" When the anchor starts to talk it's in a way to get people stirred up.

Several years ago I was talking daily with someone who was actually living where all the hoopla the news was sensationalizing about was going on. I learned first hand that a lot of "Breaking News" was just drama to keep people stressed out.

People wonder why we have so much stress, that leads to health problems, and drama in our lives. People have been groomed to make any situation in their own lives "Breaking News!"

I want peace in my life. Do I care about what's going on in the world and people's lives, yes I do. But when I sense it's "Breaking News!" to stir up drama I change the channel or move on.

Who's Happy?
