One Small Positive Thought

What would happen if we purposely thought one positive thought in the morning and kept thinking it all day long?

Our Bible verse is one small positive thought we can use. "This is the day the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it." Psalm 118:24 NLT

Purposely saying, "The LORD made this day. I will rejoice and be glad in it." just may change the whole day for the better.

Where To Look

Isn't it interesting that we can all look at the same thing and see it totally different?

Many years ago I bought a Bible after I was shown by a wise teacher how it spoke to each person individually. I found it very enlightening what areas I was drawn to and what I saw.

Today's Bible verse says, Open my eyes so that I may see the miraculous things in your teachings. Psalm 119:18

I prayed each time I read the Bible that my eyes would be opened so I would see what I needed to live my life the best that I could.

The best teachers are those who show you where to look but don't tell you what to see.

Feeling Your Attitude

Depending on the situation we can say words with a different attitude behind them. Our words say one thing but our attitude says another.

If we are going to speak words of wisdom we need to be careful of the attitude behind them.

People may hear your words but they feel your attitude.

Delete

How different our life would be if every time a negative thought came to our mind we just said, "Delete!" We all know negative thoughts are nothing but spam and need to be deleted.

If we are careful about how we think we will see negative thoughts as spam and delete them.

Asking For Advice

Never be afraid to ask for help. Asking for someone's advice can be very helpful. It can make our plans go a lot easier. ~ Quotes ~

Next month our grandchildren are coming to visit for a week. Even though we had 3 children of our own and 11 foster children I've been asking for advice and suggestions. It's been a while since we've had little children in the house and I want them to leave with some great memories.

Sometimes I think people are afraid to ask for advice. They don't want anyone to know they may need a little help.

Our Bible verse says, "Without advice plans go wrong, but with many advisers, they succeed." Proverbs 15:22 GWT

Asking for advice can help make our plans succeed.

Win-Win

Doing something to make someone else happy is a win-win situation. It doesn't have to cost money either. Giving a compliment doesn't cost a cent.

When we make someone else happy it makes our heart glad and it gives us a cheerful face. Plus, a joyful heart is good medicine. It's a win-win situation.

Take A Stand

The other night I had a dream I actually remembered. When I woke up I said, "Boy did I have a dream last night!" Bill laughed and joked, "I know, you were really talking. I should have recorded it." In the dream, everyone was sitting and I was standing alone. In this dream, I found out that I will stand for what I believe is right even if no one else does.

Today's Bible verse says, "Be alert, stand firm in the faith, be brave, be strong." 1 Corinthians 16:13 GNT

There may come a time when you are the only one standing in the crowd. Be alert, stand firm in your faith, be brave, be strong!

Who Are You?

Today we are having an inspection. The people who put our furnace and plumbing in are here to do their twice a year inspection. Before they arrived I was sent a text with the men's pictures and brief info on who they were.

Who we are isn't just in what we do to make money. Who we are should show in what we do. How do we treat people in general? How do we live our lives?

Our Bible verse says, "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another." John 13:35

When people see us they should know who we are by our love for each other.

Sense Of Humor

Boy, we can get ourselves stress out and upset if we don't keep a good sense of humor. Having a good sense of humor has gotten me through some very difficult situations in life.

Life will be much easier if we fret not ourselves because of other people. If we do good and keep a good sense of humor we will enjoy life more.

If we develop self-control it's better than conquering a city. Being patient and being able to control our emotions is better than being powerful.

The Wait Room

We live in a microwave society. We want everything to happen quickly. But that's not how life usually happens when we serve a crockpot God. His timing is not our timing and He's never in a hurry.

We may not understand why something we want is taking so long. We don't want to stay in the "Wait Room" but this room is helping us develop growth and patience.

The longer you wait for something the more you appreciate it. Because anything worth having is worth the wait.

Not Easy

It isn't always easy to do what is right. A lot of times we'd rather do what is easy. For instance...it's not always easy to put the grocery cart back where it belongs. But we all know it's the right thing to do.

It may not be easy to do what is right and good. But if we do, at the right time, we will reap blessings if we don't give up.

Miss Kitty

Many years ago there were no leash laws. People's pets were allowed to roam around freely. It was hard to tell sometimes if an animal was someone's pet or a stray.

While we lived in Kentucky there was a cat I named Miss Kitty who came to visit every so often. When she arrived she would meow at the front door. When I heard the meow I'd run to find some food and water and take it out to her. She would eat, drink, stay a short while then she would be on her way.

There was a period of time I didn't see Miss Kitty. I wondered what had happened to her. Then one day I heard the familiar  meow at the front door. When I opened the door I was surprised! There was Miss Kitty with a tiny kitten in her mouth. After I had made a big fuss about the little kitten to Miss Kitty I ran back into the house to get some food and water. I felt sad when I came back to see that Miss Kitty and the kitten were gone.

It wasn't long and Miss Kitty was back again meowing at the door. This time with another little kitten. This back and forth parade went on until she had shown me all four kittens.

It's true kindness like a boomerang always returns. The kindness I had shown Miss Kitty boomeranged right back to me when she brought her four kittens to the door.

Health & Peace

It's amazing what staying in peace can do for our health. When we add laughter and love to peace we all know that we feel better.

Being cheerful and staying in peace is good medicine.

Potholes

It's hard to enjoy the journey when we are focused on the potholes in life. If it's not one thing we stress about it's another. There will always be things in the world to give us something to worry about.

It's a fact in the world we will have trouble and plenty to worry about. But this verse says to "Cheer Up." I think that means to stop worrying and enjoy the journey.

Learn To Ignore

There are many things we can't ignore but there is plenty we can. I believe we cause ourselves more stress than necessary by paying too much attention to things we should just ignore.

We are planning to take a few trips this year. I have a problem of just wanting to get there. I've decided I need to learn to enjoy the ride and stop hurrying to get there.

One Person

Make It The Best

No one can live our lives for us. We all have the opportunity to live our one life the best that we can. This quote gives us a few suggestions on how to do that. Personally for me talking to random strangers has made my life more meaningful in many ways.

Our Bible verse says, "Forget not to show love unto strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares." Hebrews 13:2 ASV

I don't know that I've shown love to an angel when I was kind to a stranger but you never know.

Just Be Yourself

My Aunt Carmeleta was the wife of my mother's youngest brother Fred. Even though my Uncle Fred died many years ago and Aunt Carmeleta is now married to Ken I still consider her my aunt.

Everyone should have a wonderful aunt like Aunt Carmeleta. I lived with her and my Uncle Fred for a year when I was a teenager. Like a lot of teenagers, I had issues with people who talked negatively about me. If you've ever had this happen you'll understand how hurtful it is.

I'd talk to Aunt Carmeleta about these hurtful things and she would always say, "Just be yourself." This was great advice! In fact, it has been some of the best advice I have ever received. I learned that not everyone is going to like you and that's okay. Just be yourself.

When my husband Bill met Aunt Carmeleta for the first time he didn't think she was for real. He questioned, "How could anyone be so nice and not be a fake?" But he's found out through the years some people can be this nice and be for real.

I've never forgotten the advice to "Just be yourself." We need more people in this world who give great advice and are kind and loving like my Aunt Carmeleta.

Use It Or Lose It

It's interesting that we can find the time to do things that we want.

However, if we don't use our muscles, they get weak. If we don't use our mind it begins to fail. Sometimes we need to also do things that are good for us whether we want to or not.

When we work hard at keeping healthy it brings benefits. But if all we do is talk about it and do nothing it leads to poor health.

I woke up this morning with the words of an old song playing in my head. "You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone."

We need to stop and think about all of the things we have and be thankful. Why wait until they're gone before we realize their value.

If we are very careful about how we live we will use wisdom. We will learn what to value before it's gone and becomes just a memory.

Just Breathe & Have Faith

I had to put the following quote into practice 25 years ago when I was asked to read 1 Corinthians 13 at my precious friend Evy's wedding.

"Sometimes the best thing you can do is not think, not wonder, not imagine, not obsess, just breathe and have faith that everything will work out for the best."

You may wonder why on earth would reading 1 Corinthians 13 be so difficult? Well, there's a good reason why.

Our son, Todd, was a very close friend with Evy. After Todd's death, Evy and I became close friends too. Evy would stopover at our home and spend time with me. Every year on the date of Todd's death Evy would send me a white rose in memory of Todd.

What was interesting is that Evy was going to marry a man named Todd. I kept thinking, wondering, imagining when I heard the minister say 'Todd' that I was going to start crying.

I'm here to tell you that I did breathe and put my faith in the Lord that day. Before I read 1 Corinthians 13 I put this verse in my mind, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" Philippians 4:13.

I did read 1 Corinthians 13 and I didn't cry. Everything did work out for the best and now 25 years later Todd and Evy are still married.

Seeing Clearly

I remember well how clearly I saw life right after Todd died. The pain of the loss was great but for once in my life, I saw what was really important.

I could see life was much more than material things. As my eyes were washed by tears I could see clearly that relationships were what made life worth living.

Our Bible verse says, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matthew 22:37 & 39

These two verses sum up what's important in life...relationships.
Love God first and love other people and ourselves too.

Choices & Actions

Our choices and our actions affect our entire life. These two go hand in hand. We can make a choice to do something but if we don't put action to it we go nowhere.

We have been created to do good things. It's our choice to take action to work the plan God has for each of us.

Your beliefs affect your choices. The future you created depends upon the choices you make and the action you take.

Peace Stealers

Sometimes it's hard work to keep our inner peace. We live in a world full of peace stealers. We can't please everyone and we need to understand some people don't want to be happy. All they want is our attention.

God's peace will guard our hearts and minds when we pray with thanksgiving no matter what the situation, including the behavior of others.

Always

Home Of The Brave

Anyone who knows me very well knows I am very patriotic. I decorate with red/white/blue year around. I have the flag flying year around. I love this country and I'm proud to be an American.

In order to remain the land of the free we need to be strong and courageous. We won't be afraid or discouraged when we know the LORD our God is with us.

Transformation

When we think of what a caterpillar goes through to become a butterfly this gives us some sense of what transformation takes. We like instant results, but to change it takes time, patience and struggle.

We may not be where we used to be, but we're not where we need to be either. We're okay and we're on our way!

Our Bible verse says, "Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect." Romans 12:2 NLT

Transformation takes time. We can't be like the world in our reactions always worrying and upset about things. We can learn how to think differently and slowly but surely we will change. It will take patience.
