There Is Always A Way

I've been on FB for many years. During those years I've noticed how people react to different situations.

I've seen people respond with kindness on subjects they strongly disagree with. I can almost hear the tone in their words. Unfortunately, the same is true in the opposite direction.

People do not need to agree but there is always a way to be kind when and if you disagree. We all have our opinions but stating them with kindness says a lot 

Be Kind Whenever Possible

I noticed it didn't say when you feel like it. So whether we feel like it or not we should be kind whenever possible. Let's remember it's always possible.

Move On

Sometimes it's very hard to move on. But once you move on, you realize it was the best decision you ever made.

What mountain have we stayed on long enough? Have we been going around and around the same issues for years? It's time to take a step and decide that we are not going to stay where we are. When we make the decision to move on we will realize it was the best decision we ever made.

There have been times when I have felt down and have said to myself, "You have a right to be sad and cry." What's interesting is that almost immediately I've had this thought, "Yes, you have a right to be sad but you also have a right to be happy!"

Our Bible verse says, "Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again--my Savior and my God." Psalm 112:7

Get Up!

Everyone has gone through things in life that have knocked them down. Some people choose to stay down but others get up and move forward.

I had an Aunt Ruth who was chronically depressed. We'd go over to visit her and there she'd be still in her bathrobe with all the shades pulled down.

My mother would have none of it. She immediately opened up all the shades and even the windows in the summer. She pulled Aunt Ruth up and got her dressed. It wasn't long and Aunt Ruth was telling us jokes and laughing.

Sometimes we need someone who will have nothing to do with our pity party. Someone who will say, Get up!

Where's Harvey?

Yesterday was our 49th Wedding Anniversary. We thought it would be fun to surprise our best man, Harvey*. We hadn't seen him in 49 years.

Over the years we've moved many times between 4 states and we always had unlisted phone numbers. We'd think of Harvey from time to time wondering where he was and how he was doing.

Finally, last year I got online and much to my surprise Harvey had a business near us. One day we stopped at his business but he had just left. Yesterday, we went over again. Sure enough, he had been there earlier but was now gone.

We decided to try and find Harvey's home. After a few wild goose chases, we found his home on a dead end dirt road. As we drove up to this very lovely home I saw signs "guard dogs" on location. I wasn't about to get out but Bill did and rang the doorbell. No one answered.

We started back down the road and saw an SUV coming towards us. We slowed down and Bill said, "If that SUV goes straight ahead we're turning around." Sure enough, it did!

We turned around and Bill got out and rang the bell again. A man came to the door. After Bill asked him a few questions, Harvey said, "Is this you, Bill? I've been thinking about you. I've tried to find you over the years."

This would not be an understatement to say that Harvey and his wife were overwhelmed to see us. When we told them that we had used Harvey's middle name Yale for our son, Todd's middle name tears came to his eyes.

It was a great day and we're planning to go out to dinner with them soon!

*Harvey was a nickname.

I like this way of seeing the word hope. We feel much better when we are expecting good things to happen.

Wow, even if we feel there is no reason to hope we can keep believing and have a positive expectation that something good is going to happen.

Miracles Happen Everyday

I had a text this morning from a friend telling me about a "miracle" that had just happened in her life. She was very excited! I was excited too and thanked her for sharing with me.

I believe miracles happen all around us every day. Too often we overlook them but they are there if we will open our eyes.

We should never stop believing in miracles because God does do great things too marvelous to understand. He performs countless miracles every day!

We can motivate ourselves every day by keeping our minds full of good thoughts. We know that the God of all hope will fill us with joy and peace as we put our trust in Him.

When we are in life's roughest storms our anchor will hold when we put our trust in the Lord. His love will ground us and be our anchor. God's love gives us the strength we need and keeps us strong.

When we are going through hard times we normally feel broken and weak. We wonder how we are going to handle what we are going through.

It's in our weakness that God's power works best! I love that! It doesn't matter if we feel weak and broken because we know in God's garden of grace, even a broken tree can bear fruit!

What Are You Going To Do?

Recently I found out that something I have been dealing with for a long time was a chronic condition that I would have the rest of my life. There are times when the symptoms lesson but, to be honest, I have to deal with it 24/7.

I got online and read up about it. One thing it said was because it was a chronic condition it often caused depression. I certainly understood how it could.

As I read I thought, "What are you going to do?" I knew I was going to have to live with this and it wasn't going to always be easy. I understood there were going to be good days and then not so good days.

What am I going to do? I've made a choice just like I did when Todd died. I'm going to keep Psalm 118:24 in my thoughts and say, I CHOOSE TO BE HAPPY TODAY.

The Best Time Is Now

What are we waiting for? That's a good question. If we're waiting for all of our circumstances to be good before we can begin or even choose to be happy we're never going to.

I put the following Bible verse on the refrigerator when our son Todd was killed in a car accident. "This is the day which the LORD has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it." Psalm 118:24 In all capital letters I wrote, "I CHOOSE TO BE HAPPY TODAY!"

I found that choosing to rejoice in the day made all the difference in how my day went. I learned the joy of the Lord was my strength. (see Nehemiah 8:10)

The best time for a new beginning is now! There are seven days in a week and someday is not one of them. What are we waiting for? Choose to be happy today!

One Of A Kind

This morning I saw a story about a guy named "Eddy The Eagle" from the 1988 Olympics. He was 54 years old and wore thick glasses. Eddy was a ski jumper from Great Brittan. His chances of going to the Olympics were slim to none. However, he did go and finished in last place. No one expected him to win but the smile on his face told me that he did win because he refused to give up. His story is still being told today!

Our Bible verse says, "But as for you, be strong and courageous, for your work will be rewarded." 2 Chronicles 15:7 NLT

We don't have to finish in first place. Eddy is still being remembered because he didn't give up. What could any of us do if we would refuse to give up?

God Understands

Having to wait can sure steal our enjoyment in life. Being stuck in traffic, being in a slow line at the store, waiting for results from a test, or any number of other things. We do not like to wait and it can steal our enjoyment in life!

Wow, this is one of my favorite verses. It says we can have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance to the full till it overflows. This verse makes it clear we can make a decision to enjoy our life even if we have to wait.

Can't You See Him Smile

When I think of our son, Todd, I remember his great smile. I know many others who knew him well all have remarked about his smile as well.

There's a song I've loved for a long time. It's called "In A Little While" by Amy Grant. The words, "Can't you see Him smile" are in this song. 

My belief is that this earth is not our home. We are only here for a little while. I believe we're here to learn to love God and each other. One day we will be going Home.

My heart is filled with joy when I envision our Father and Todd smiling as He welcomed Todd with open arms back Home.

When It's Dark Look For The Stars

What do we look for when we are going through hard times? I believe we will enjoy life more if we will look for the rainbows and the stars. We can't ignore the bad situations but we can look for the good that will come out of them.

I have personally seen God work good out of tragic situations in my own life.

We can easily spend our days looking at the rain and the darkness. But with God's help, we can look for the rainbow and the stars knowing God can work good out of everything.

Love Never Dies

Today, February 6th is the anniversary of our son Todd, my Dad, and 2 Uncles deaths. I've had to let go and put them in our Father's care, but that does not mean I love them less.

I've been working on making a "Daily Deposit" into my "Effort Account" by cleaning out some closets, cabinets, and drawers. It's taken some work, but slowly it's getting done.

I believe that when we take an interest in people we are seeing with our Father's Eyes. When we see with our Father's eyes we will see the beauty in others. What a beautiful way to live seeing others with our Father's eyes.
