I wonder how many of us go directly to God and ask Him to forgive us, only to carry the guilt with us? God wants us to accept His forgiveness and leave the guilt behind. Jesus already paid the price for our forgiveness of sin. Now we can live the abundant life Jesus died to give us.

Our Bible verse says. But if we confess our sins to God, He will keep his promise and do what is right: He will forgive us our sins and purify us from all our wrongdoing. 1 John 1:9 GNT

When we confess our sins to God, He will forgive us. Only God can forgive us our sins when we go directly to Him.
