Too Good To Be True

When I find something that has helped me, I like to share it with someone else. My husband, Bill, is used to me running in, telling him something I just learned.

I was in bed years ago when I hit on this Bible verse. "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not as a result of works, so that no one may boast." Ephesians 2:8&9

I was shocked when I read this. So I ran out and announced to Bill that we were saved and had eternal life as a "free gift!" This is free! According to this verse, our good works have nothing to do with it!

This Bible verse seemed too good to be true!

Finding this verse was great news to me! But I asked the Lord what I was supposed to do? So He showed me this. "What exactly does God want us to do?" the people asked. Jesus answered, "What God wants you to do is to believe in the One He sent." John 6:28&29.

Believe what? As I continued to study, I found this. "For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ." 2 Corinthians 5:12

Now I got it! I am made right because of what Jesus has done for me! It's not my "do" that's important. It's my "who!" Who I am in Christ! It's by my faith that Jesus paid it all for me. I simply believe this! I don't need to figure it out.

God doesn't ask you to figure it out. He asks you to believe.
