It's important why we do nice things for other people. We may do things for the wrong reasons. If that's the case, we may expect the other person to repay us in some way. Usually, the other person will never give us what we feel we deserve.
However, if we do things for people because we want God's love to shine, it's a whole different story.
Our Bible verse says, "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:16 NIV
When we do things so that God's love can shine through us it's a new ballgame. We won't be expecting anything in return.
Don't shine so others can see you. Shine so that through you, others can see Him.
