I've heard that what we focus on grows. This works in the negative as well as the positive. If we focus on something that makes us mad we can get really worked up. It starts out as a small annoyance then grows into something much worse.

How much better to focus on something good. Our Bible verse says, "And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise." Philippians 4:8 NLT

By thinking about things that are excellent and worthy of praise we are focusing on the good things in life.
