Moving to the new religious boarding school was, for the most part, a positive experience. I met the principal, and he said something like, "I think you'll do great here."
I have to laugh when I think about how the school before didn't trust me as far as they could spit. Now I was in charge of the keys.
I was allowed to wear the clothes I liked. I could grow my hair out. I say this because the 1st school made me cut my hair. I could wear makeup, and I even had a stereo system with speakers, unheard of in the 1st school.
One of the girls had a Beach Boys album with the song "I Get Around" on it. In my yearbook, she wrote, "Remember, I get around?" My mom had a fit when she saw this and wondered what "I get around" meant! LOL
Our senior class trip went to Puerto Rico. One of our teachers was from there, so we stayed with his friends.
On the bus ride to the airport, I got to know more people. A couple of guys started to sing, and I joined in. These guys invited me to sing with them in a group like Peter, Paul, and Mary. I was asked to meet with them at the boys' dorm in the evening to practice.
I was starting to think this religious group may not be too bad. Until...
